What to expect

New to Massage?

Before treatment a discussion of any of your concerns, the reason for massage, including what your goals are for massage (examples but not limited to: pain reduction, increase range of motion, decrease swelling, stress reduction. We will look at the health history you have provided and highlight the benefits and potential side effects of the treatment. If there are any concerns (contraindications), we will discuss options and I will endeavour to answer any questions you may have.
Depending on the goals for the massage, some time may be used for assessing your area(s) of concerns to create a measurable base line.  This is part of the informed decision-making process. At any time during your treatment, feel free ask questions, make reasonable adjustments so that we can tailor your massage to be as unique and individual as your health story is.

New to Manual Lymph Drainage?

During the first session of MLD more time will be used for assessment, including measurements of the swollen area and to discuss a person’s health story so far. This can include discussion of the cause of swelling, is it genetic, occurred do to trauma, surgery or unknown? What aggravates and alleviates the swelling? The reason for MLD, including what your goals for the session (examples but not limited to: pain reduction, increase range of motion, decrease swelling, stress reduction or education.) We will look at the health history you have provided and highlight the benefits and potential side effects of the treatment. If there are any concerns (contraindications), we will discuss options and I will endeavour to answer any questions you may have.

Treatment consists of light, slow repetitive strokes always starting at the neck and clearing the area before the area of concern. Then working into the area of edema and then back to towards the neck. After treatment self care and compression may be discussed to manage the edema long term.
